Paquita la del Barrio, the iconic Mexican singer known for her powerful ranchera songs about heartbreak and betrayal, will receive a heartfelt farewell in Mexico City. The beloved artist, who passed away at 77 in her native Veracruz, will be honored with a final tribute in the Guerrero neighborhood, where she launched her career.

One of the most significant stops in her farewell journey will be Casa Paquita, a restaurant she founded in the heart of Mexico City. More than just an eatery, it became a sanctuary where she sang about love, loss, and resilience, cementing her status as a voice for women who had suffered in love.

Paquita’s ashes will arrive in Mexico City on February 21, embarking on a commemorative procession through key locations that shaped her artistic journey. The cortege will depart at 11:00 AM from J. García López funeral home, carried in a replica of the historic Cadillac hearse.

Planned Route:

  • 11:00 AM: Departure from J. García López funeral home (General Prim #57, Colonia Juárez).
  • First stop: Plaza Garibaldi, a landmark of mariachi and Mexican music.
  • Second stop: Martínez de la Torre Market, a symbolic place reflecting the working-class neighborhoods she often represented in her music.
  • Final stop: Casa Paquita (Zarco 202, Colonia Guerrero), where a private mass will be held.

At 1:00 PM, a private mass officiated by Father José de Jesús Aguilar will take place inside Casa Paquita, with access limited to family, close friends, and members of the press.

After the ceremony, Casa Paquita will open its doors to the public, allowing fans to pay their final respects. Attendees are encouraged to bring a flower or simply say a last goodbye to one of Mexico’s most cherished artists.

Paquita la del Barrio’s songs, such as Rata de Dos Patas and Tres Veces Te Engañé, became anthems of empowerment, earning her a devoted following across generations.
