Trump Sanctions ICC Over Israel Arrest Warrants, Faces Legal Setbacks

President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) after it issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant. The ICC accused the two officials of war crimes in Gaza, a move that the Trump administration strongly condemned as an overreach of authority.

Trump’s order targets ICC officials and their families, restricting their access to U.S. financial systems and visas. The administration argues that the ICC lacks jurisdiction over the U.S. and Israel, as neither country is a signatory to the Rome Statute, which governs the court.

The executive order follows failed Republican efforts in the Senate to pass a bill imposing similar sanctions. Trump’s unilateral move underscores his commitment to shielding U.S. allies from international prosecution while pushing back against what he views as biased global institutions.

Trump Faces Court Rulings Blocking His Key Policies

While Trump was issuing international sanctions, two federal court rulings delivered major blows to his domestic agenda.

Federal Workforce Cuts Blocked by Judge

A federal judge temporarily blocked Trump’s plan to reduce the federal workforce through a forced resignation program. The controversial policy, modeled after Elon Musk’s corporate restructuring strategies, offered eight months of severance pay to employees who voluntarily resigned. However, more than 60,000 federal workers accepted the offer, representing only 2% of the workforce—far below the administration’s target.

The White House planned to shrink the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to fewer than 300 employees, down from over 10,000 worldwide. The drastic cuts raised alarms among Democrats and humanitarian organizations, who accused the administration of dismantling critical global aid efforts.

Birthright Citizenship Order Struck Down

In another legal defeat, a federal judge blocked Trump’s executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented parents. The ruling was a major setback for Trump’s immigration crackdown, as the judge criticized the policy as an unconstitutional attempt to bypass the 14th Amendment.

The decision came just a day after a Maryland judge ruled against similar restrictions affecting pregnant migrant women. The Justice Department is expected to appeal, setting up a potential Supreme Court battle over one of Trump’s most controversial immigration policies.

Trump’s Anti-Immigration Push Faces Resistance

Despite legal setbacks, the Trump administration continues its hardline stance on immigration. The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against Illinois and Chicago, accusing them of implementing sanctuary policies that obstruct federal immigration enforcement.

Trump has also directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to crack down on Christian persecution and vandalism, establishing a White House faith office to defend religious rights. This move aligns with Trump’s appeal to evangelical voters, reinforcing his commitment to protecting Christianity in America.

A Week of Legal Battles and Foreign Policy Moves

Trump’s decision to sanction the ICC marks another chapter in his confrontation with international institutions. While his administration defends Israel against war crime allegations, his domestic policies face increasing judicial resistance.

With upcoming elections, these legal and policy battles will shape Trump’s political standing and influence his campaign strategy. The world is watching how his actions on foreign policy, immigration, and government restructuring will unfold in the coming months.
